What The Bible Says About Believers Baptism?

By Robert D. Anthony, M.Min D.D.

Why should believers be Baptized?

The Lord Commands it. "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matt. 28: 19,20) This is commonly called the great commission. It was given by Jesus to the whole church for every age. The imperative words in the commission are "make disciples of all the nations, baptize them, and teach disciples what Christ has given. However, the baptizing and teaching ministries have the force of a mandate because they follow logically the imperative "make disciples." When we make disciples, we baptize them and teach them. The book of acts begins with the same imperative. "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."  (Acts 1:8)

This verse informs us that it is by the Holy Spirit that we are empowered for our global task.

The presence of the Savior and the power of the Holy Spirit are God's twin certainties that we are to lay hold of and continually keep them close to our hearts as we serve our risen Lord until He comes.
